Marianna Bacallao
Marianna Bacallao is WVIK Quad Cities NPR s 2020-2021 Fellowship Host/Reporter. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mercer University s Center for Collaborative Journalism and served as Editor-in-Chief for the student newspaper, The Cluster. After interning with Georgia Public Broadcasting in 2018, she was selected as a 2019 John M. Couric Fellowship Reporter at GPB, where she contributed to the statewide newscast. She was a spring 2020 intern, helping produce GPB s daily news talk show, Political Rewind. She also had the pleasure of interning with The Macon Telegraph and CBS affiliate, 13WMAZ. Georgia College Press Association awarded her first place in Sports Photography and Best Review, and she ranked third in the state for Best Photo Essay twice.

The Reminder won Best in Class in its circulation class, along with winning Best Editorial Page in the same classification and finishing second in the Best Front Page category. The Reminder has now won the Best in Class award in its circulation class for three straight years and five out of the last six years, winning in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Reporter Eric Westhaver won four awards and earned an additional podium finish. Westhaver won three separate awards for his weekly column In Our Words , each coming in the first year Westhaver wrote a regular column. For In Our Words, Westhaver won Best Columnist, Best Column or Feature on a Business Topic and Best Local Editorial on a Business Topic.
