Expensive construction and costly changes made at the last minute have affected the Abilene Independent School District s 2018 bond construction program.
Initially, voters approved a $138.7 million price tag. District officials at the time knew the actual cost would be higher and vowed to find alternative sources to pay for the difference.
They ve attempted that, but financial statements and estimates indicate there s little wiggle room as work winds down on the most expensive projects.
What s gone right? Where did costs skyrocket?
There s a lot to unpack from the district s financial report provided during Monday s regular meeting of the district s school board.
