New Jersey Deli Valued at Over $100 Million Turns Out to Be Shell Company

Back in April a tiny New Jersey-based deli made headlines after it was valued at $100 million on the stock market, and now we know why.
Last year, the Your Hometown Deli only made $13,976 in revenue, but its market capitalization sat at a ridiculous $113 million. As the sole location for the company Hometown International, the deli quickly created suspicion among traders. It should be noted that the Inside Edition report from up top is from April, when the deli first started to make the news.
The
New York Times reports, in an extensive article detailing the bizarre situation, that Hometown International is actually a shell company to allow for an often-criticized process known as a “reverse merger.”

In a letter
to his investors this April, David Einhorn, founder of the hedge fund Greenlight Capital and a well-known short-seller, complained that the stock market was in a state of “quasi anarchy.” As one piece of evidence, he pointed to Elon Musk, whose commentary on Twitter, Einhorn said, amounted to market manipulation. “The laws don’t apply to him, and he can do whatever he wants,” Einhorn noted. As another example, he cited a restaurant in rural New Jersey called Your Hometown Deli, which despite making $13,976 in revenue last year had somehow attained a value of $113 million on the stock market.

E-Waste, a shell company linked to a nearly $100 million company that owns just one New Jersey deli, announced it will enter into a reverse merger transaction with a privately held corporation.
E-Waste, which itself has a sky-high market capitalization of $110 million despite having no business operations, had been marketed with the deli company, Hometown International, for such a reverse merger or similar transaction.
E-Waste's mailing address is in a North Carolina office building and is the same address as a company connected to Peter Coker Sr., whose son, Peter Coker Jr., is chairman and CEO of Hometown International.

Paul Morina is a local legend in Paulsboro, N.J. He’s coached the high school wrestling team for 36 years, winning an astonishing 93.7% of the time. He’s also the high school principal. And to top it all off, he’s president of what is probably Paulsboro’s most famous institution, and certainly it’s most numerically valuable, the $2 billion Hometown Deli on Mantua Avenue, just a few blocks away from the high school.

The pandemic is easing. People are getting out and about a bit more. This has been great news for restaurants everywhere, for instance, Paulsboro, N.J.’s Hometown Deli.
Sales jumped nearly a whopping 50% in the first quarter of 2021.
That amounts to $5,305, or nearly 91 cents from each man, woman and child in Paulsboro, and a very healthy jump from the first quarter of last year, when Hometown sold only $3,577 worth of sandwiches and cold cuts.

Parent firm of Hometown Deli notes loss increased in latest quarter

That compared to expenses of $172,000 for consulting fees, professional fees and administrative costs.
The firm, which raised $2.5 million through a private stock sale in April 2020, ended the quarter with cash of $1.1 million.
Hometown, a publicly held firm, repeated its intention to "engage in a business combination with a private entity whose business presents an opportunity for our shareholders."
Hometown said it "has no particular business combination in mind and has not entered into any negotiations regarding such a combination."
The report also noted Hometown, with first-quarter sales of about $5,300, has recently ended two consulting agreements that had cost $40,000 per month.
