Straker Foundation awards grants View Comments ZANESVILLE - The J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation recently awarded nearly $1.6 million in grants to various local entities. This included $100,000 to support a new county talent recruitment and retention program.  Major grants included $600,000 to Muskingum University for health and wellness center support, $100,000 to the city of Zanesville for community development and park renovation, $92,669.65 to Dresden for the community swim center, $90,000 to Muskingum County History for building renovations, $52,991.09 to the dog warden for keen construction and security cameras, $50,000 to Eastside Community Ministry for building construction, $50,000 to Trulight Ministries for homeless program support and $50,000 to Zanesville Community Theatre for facility upgrades.

WHIZ News Straker Foundation Approves $1.6 Million in Grants in Muskingum County Family members and the community honored J. William Straker at a memorial service on Saturday, May 1, 2021. That afternoon, the Trustees of the J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation met to approve grant awards totaling almost 1.6 million dollars. Straker Trustees are the children and grandchildren of J. William and Mary Helen Straker, who established the Foundation. The J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation will announce a smaller competitive grant cycle for Fall 2021. Women of Achievement Awards presented

Women of Achievement Awards presented Staff Report ZANESVILLE - Women of Achievement Awards were recently presented in seven categories by Ohio University Zanesville, Zane State College and the Muskingum Family Y.  The usual dinner has been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Videos will be posted on social media outlets to honor winners.  Ruth Ann Allen is the recipient of the Muskingum Family Y Lifetime Service Award. She has distinguished herself by inspiring countless students and adults to pursue musical interests. She served as a teacher in the Franklin and Zanesville City school districts, a private voice instructor and a church musician, director and soloist. Allen served on the Ohio Music Teachers Association and Zanesville Concert Association boards and is a past president of the Thursday Music Club. She is a 55-year soloist for Zanesville’s Messiah presentation and a 40-year actor and music director for the Renner Theater.
