LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - A possible override of a veto on a 2nd Amendment-related bill and the state’s budget will be major issues lawmakers will tackle as they head back to the Capitol Monday.
An attempt to override a veto of the Arkansas Sovereignty Act of 2021 is expected Monday after Gov. Asa Hutchinson vetoed the bill Friday.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - A bill that would prohibit “members of the male sex” from participating in any interscholastic, intercollegiate, intramural or club athletic team or sport that is expressly designed for females, women or girls was approved Wednesday in the state House.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Missy Irvin (R-Mountain View) and Rep. DeAnn Vaught (R-Horatio) would create the Gender Integrity Reinforcement Legislation for Sports Act.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - There are several major issues on the agenda this week at the state Capitol in Little Rock as lawmakers continue work before a scheduled recess on April 30.
One of the main issues this week will be the state budget bills.
The proposal also included $50 million in tax cuts, as well as work on reducing the sales tax on used vehicles in the state. On Monday, the Senate is scheduled to vote on several budget bills including funding for the Department of Education, Department of Commerce, Department of Finance and Administration and ArDOT.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - The Arkansas state Senate on Thursday approved a state memorial day in honor of the Man in Black.
The bill would set aside Feb. 26 - Cash’s birthday - of each year to honor Cash’s contribution to music, the state of Arkansas and the United States.
Cash, who made songs like “Folsom Prison Blues” and “A Boy Named Sue” famous, was born in Kingsland and grew up in Dyess.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) -A bill that would require buyers of used catalytic converters in the state to maintain certain records received overwhelming support Thursday in the State House.
Jonesboro police said last year that at least 80 catalytic converters have been stolen there since 2019.
According to the bill, scrap metal dealers would be required to keep a clearly identifiable date and time-stamped digital photo of the seller, scrap metal in the form it was purchased and catalytic converter if any.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - A new bill in the Arkansas Legislature looks to prevent the senior population of Arkansas from being scammed.
Filed by Rep. Carlton Wing (R-North Little Rock) and State Sen. Jonathan Dismang (R-Beebe), HB1391 would allow financial institutions to report potential exploitation cases to the Attorney General’s office.
The bill could put a freeze on account transactions while being investigated.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - A bill that would seek to provide tax certainty to small businesses and individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic is on the agenda this week for a key House committee.
The House Revenue and Taxation Committee will hear House Bill 1361 at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Little Rock. The bill is “an act to provide for the tax treatment of certain loans, payments and expenses related to the Coronavirus 2019 relief programs, to provide Coronavirus 2019 relief by conforming to federal tax treatment of Coronavirus 2019 relief programs.”
