Ghaziabad: Sidharth Vihar, the upcoming township situated along the Delhi Meerut Expressway, will now have a direct access to the national highway (NH-9) as the Uttar Pradesh Housing Board is developing a stretch through the township.
The colony will also be connected to the Ganga Jal water supply as work on laying a pipeline is going on, officials said.
“The UP Housing Board, which administers Sidharth Vihar, is constructing a road that will offer seamless connectivity to the DME. The road promises to change the fortune of the township, which is still in its development stage,” said Umanath Shukla, executive engineer at the UP Housing Board.

Ghaziabad: City-based environmentalists and a section of councillors have been protesting against the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation’s (GMC) proposal to construct underground parking on Ambedkar park land near its head office.
In a bid to stall the project, councillor Rajendra Tyagi has written to the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) against the move. Citing the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act. 1973 and UP Parks & Playground Act, 1975, Tyagi said: “It is violative of Section 13 of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973, as the construction on an area reserved for park alters and destroys the area.”
“The power to alter the land use pattern of the park rests with GDA, and without its approval, it cannot be done. So, we have written to the authority saying GMC is the maintenance agency and it cannot carry out the project,” added Tyagi.

BIJNOR: Kamaal Ahmad, his wife and 5-year-old child contracted Covid-19 on April 10. It took 15 days for the family to recover. In that time, Ahmad’s perspective on life had changed. Now Ahmad, a manager with Indian Bank, and three of his childhood friends — Raghav Sharan Goel, a realtor; Nazim, a Jal Nigam contractor, and Bhupender Sharma, a journalist — have got together, pooling their resources, to set up a 20-bed Covid care centre in Bijnor’s Dhampur town.
“It was tough,” Ahmad, in his mid-30s like his friends, said. “My family and I were down. I resolved to fight back. I also vowed that after I am fine, I will help others do the same. Once on my feet, my friends joined me. I began contacting authorities. I immediately got positive responses from people when I spoke about setting up the facility.” The stay and treatment is free at the centre.

Lucknow, April 28 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is now working towards making rivers in the state 'clean and serene'.
The chief minister has ordered the officials to make sure the water quality of the Gomti river is improved. In order to implement this work, an order has been passed to release water from May 1 to June 15.
He has also instructed that all 31 rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, and Saryu of the state should be made clean and serene.
The construction of the 120 MLD Gaizuddin Haider (GH) canal STP, worth Rs 336 crore, is also being done at a rapid pace by the Jal Nigam Lucknow and this will be operational by September 2022.

The accused junior engineer of Jal Nigam in Ghaziabad had demanded Rs 21 lakh bribe in two installments from a contractor to desilt the Muradnagar-Delhi water pipeline.

Ghaziabad: In a major operation by a team of Vigilance department officials from Meerut, a junior engineer of the Ghaziabad Jal Nigam has been arrested for taking Rs 13 lakh bribe.
The accused has been identified as Vikram Singh, who lives in Ghaziabad. Jal Nigam had given a contract of Rs 3.6 cr to a contractor identified as Satish Kumar to remove silt from a water pipeline in Muradnagar to Delhi.
