Mitchell Wins on Big Day for Flames Shot Putters at VT

Kyle Mitchell won the men s shot put competition at Saturday s Virginia Tech Challenge. Liberty senior Kyle Mitchell made it back-to-back victories with a 60-1.25 shot put effort, Saturday at the Virginia Tech Challenge inside Rector Field House. The competition also saw Jose Ballivian (59-5.5) and Warren Barrett (59-0.75) become the fifth and sixth Flames ever to throw over 18 meters. Mitchell, the defending ASUN indoor men s shot put champion, took control on Saturday with his 60-1.25 mark in round five. He will enter Friday s ASUN shot put competition on a two-meet winning streak after also taking top honors at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.

4 Flames Garner ASUN Indoor Track Weekly Honors

These include two repeat winners from last week (Chelsea Igberaese – Women s Field and Anthony Bryan – Men s Freshman) and two women s distance runners who made successful track season debuts at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational (Anna Hostetler – Women s Track and Adelyn Ackley – Women s Freshman). A redshirt junior from Dacula, Ga., Igberaese claimed her second ASUN Women s Field Athlete of the Week honor this season and the third of her career. Igberaese won the women s weight throw at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational with a personal-best and meet-record mark of 65-6.75. She won the event by more than five feet and moved up to No. 34 on this year s NCAA Division I national list.
