Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Marine Veteran Tom Chaney. In the Mid 80’s he was stationed in Alaska. He had a short term relationship with a woman before moving to Hawaii. It’s been 34-years since that relationship and Tom had no idea he had a daughter. This past weekend the two met for the very first time. All thanks to a 23 and me gift McKenna got from her adoptive parents for Christmas. It first matched her with Tom Chaney senior and that’s how she found her dad. She sent him a message and Tom responded 20 minutes later. They are both looking forward to catching up on the last 34-years. Congratulations Tom and THANK YOU for your service.

MESA, Ariz. Mesa resident Tom Chaney was a Marine stationed in Alaska in the mid-1980s. He had a brief relationship with a woman before being moved on to Hawaii.
The result of that relationship hugged him in the middle of Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport 34 years later.
Both of them hardly able to speak, and hardly needed to do so.
That is the beginning and end of the story, but most of the middle of the story centers on Stephanie McKenna, who was put up for adoption by her birth mother.
