20 professional artists from around Ohio will be setting up their easels in Downtown East Liverpool Saturday, May 15th, 2021 to kick off the Museum of Ceramics’ “40+1” Anniversary Celebration. (40+1 as the Museum’s 40th Anniversary Celebration had to be postponed due to Covid-19 last year.) Outdoor painters from the Ohio Plein Air Society (ohiopleinairsociety.com) and the Eastern Ohio Plein Air Club will check in at the Museum and be painting throughout the Downtown area from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Many of the artists attending have received national and regional recognition for their works. The paintings created will then be on display and for sale outside the Museum from 3 p.m. until about 4:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held inside the Museum. The event is receiving support locally from Tim Horton’s and nationally from Golden Artist Colors, Judson’s Art Outfitters and Streamline Publications.

First Blue Pigment Discovered In Centuries Hits The Market

Back in 2009, a bunch of chemists accidentally cooked up a unique and brilliantly blue pigment said to be the first new blue pigment discovered in 200 years. Now, after jumping some regulatory loopholes, the much-loved pigment is now seeing the light of day.
The pigment — nicknamed YInMn — was fully approved for commercial use under the US Toxic Substances Control Act in May 2020 and is now making its way onto artists’ canvases, Artnet reports. A number of art suppliers have already started producing the pigment, including Kremer Pigmente, Golden Artist Colors, and Shepherd Color, but it’s said to remain extremely expensive and relatively rare. One shop was reported to sell 40 milliliters (less than a shot glass) of the paint for $179.40.
