An Iowa City man faces decades in prison after breaking into the residence of a woman he has a no contact order with, assaulting her, and taking her car and their shared child.
Police say 27-year old Zachary Washpun of Kountry Lane has a no-contact order with the woman prohibiting him from in or near her Highway 1 West residence. Tuesday at approximately 3:50 am, he’s accused of going to the residence. When the woman opened the door, Washpun allegedly forced his way in and demanded to know where his child was.
He allegedly destroyed the woman’s apartment and hit her in the face with a glass bottle. She attempted to call for help, but Washpun reportedly took her cellphone, her vehicle, and their child and fled the scene. The woman told police she had pain from the assault.
