The Department of Social Welfare (DSW) has stated that the Madina Social Welfare Shelter in Accra is not in a position to take in child beggars from the streets.
Consequently, the department has asked to be put in place adequate planning and interventions before child beggars are removed from the streets.
Already, the police have indicated their intention to embark on a major exercise to rid the streets of child beggars.
But, speaking to the
Daily Graphic in Accra, the Director of the DSW, Mrs Comfort Asare, said such a move, for now,would be counter-productive.

The Coastal Development Authority (CODA) has handed over a gated two-unit kindergarten classroom block to the Agona West Municipal Assembly (AWMA) Basic School at Wawase, a suburb of Agona Swedru in the Central Region.
The new classroom block, which was funded by CODA from the constituency’s share of the one million dollar per constituency fund, is intended to provide a conducive learning environment for the pupils.

The Women’s Wing of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Agona West Constituency has lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the appointment of Mrs Justina Marigold Assan as the Minister-designate for the Central Region.
According to them, the elevation of Mrs Assan, the Municipal Chief Executive for Agona West, to the high office of Minister-designate was a great honour to the constituency and women across the nation.

Addressing a press conference at Agona Swedru last Tuesday to thank the President for Mrs Assan’s appointment, a polling station women organiser, Ms Barikisu Abdulai, said President Akufo-Addo made the right choice and that Mrs Assan was very competent to occupy her new office if approved by Parliament.
