Climate change and climate variability pose major threats to the environment, economic growth and sustainable development.
Africa is the most vulnerable to the negative effects of climate change despite being the least polluter.
Notable effects of climate change include reduced agricultural production, food insecurity, increased incidences of flooding and droughts.
Other challenges are widespread disease epidemics, and increased risk of conflict over scarce land and water resources all of which could derail the government’s progress in achieving Vision 2030, SDGs and the Big four agenda.
This vulnerability is aggravated by the interaction of multiple stressors occurring at various levels, coupled with the country’s low adaptive capacity, geographical location and over-reliance on climate-sensitive sectors which impact the country’s prospects for long-term economic gro ....

10 November 2020 - The Government of Zimbabwe through its Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement, Climate Change Department and UNDP Zimbabwe launched today the Green Climate Fund (GCF)-financed ‘Building Climate Resilience of Vulnerable Agricultural Livelihoods in Southern Zimbabwe project.
The innovative US$26.6 million initiative aims to reach 2.3 million vulnerable smallholder farmers in Manicaland, Masvingo and Matabeleland South, improve food security, and build resilience for people whose lives and livelihoods are being put at risk in the face of climate risks and impacts. ....
