A man allegedly threw acid on five members of his family and himself following an altercation in Dhaka s Lalbagh area this morning.
Police suspected the attacker Ali Hossain, 40, is mentally unstable and addicted to drugs.
The other injured are: Ali s mother Momena Begum, 70, brothers Anwar Hossain, 52, Iqbal Hossain, 45 sister Jamila Akter, 30, and nephew Salehin, 20.
The incident took place around 5:45am at their house after Ali, a worker at a local battery shop, locked in an altercation with his family members, said Amitab Darji, a sub-inspector of Lalbagh Police Station. ....

The death toll from the launch capsize in the Shitalakshya River stood at 29 after the launch was pulled out on Monday.
Most of the bodies retrieved were inside the sunken vessel, said the authorities concerned.
The launch ‘MV Sabit Al Hasan’ sank in the river near the third Shitalakkhya Bridge at Koylaghat of Syedpur in Narayanganj after being hit with a sand carrying bulkhead ‘SKL-3’ on Sunday evening.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) said the launch with 47 passengers left the Narayanganj launch terminal for going to Munshiganj at about 5:56 pm. Of the passengers, 20 could be rescued while the rest drowned. ....

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the government will set up community vision centres in all upazilas across the country in phases to provide better eyecare services to local people.
Eyecare services are costly. General people can t afford these. I m not only the Prime Minister, but also the daughter of the Father of the Nation. It s my responsibility to ensure healthcare services for every citizen. I ve been trying to fulfil this responsibility, she said. ....

Dhaka, March 11 : Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday emphasised on improving health facilities in the country saying that health people are required to build a health Bangladesh.
She said, “Eye care services are costly. General people of Bangladesh can’t afford these. I’m not only the Prime Minister, but also the daughter of the Father of the Nation. It’s my responsibility to ensure healthcare services for every citizen. I’ve been trying to fulfil this responsibility.”
Mentioning that the government is providing free Vitamin-A doses, different vaccines and medicines to people, she said, “We’ve been creating scopes so that people can stay healthy everywhere.” ....
