Keyser moving forward with sludge shed plans Mineral Daily News-Tribune Tribune Managing Editor KEYSER  The City of Keyser is working with Thrasher Engineering and the Region 8 Planning and Development Corporation to move forward with plans to construct a sludge storage sled at the city’s wastewater treatment facility. City administrator Jeff Broadwater said during the Jan. 13 city council meeting that he hopes to be able to obtain a 100% grant or loan forgiveness for the project. “It is a critical piece, and one of the last pieces to finish the (upgrade) of the sewer system,” he said, explaining that, once constructed, it will save the city some money.

WELLSBURG The Brooke County Commission has accepted a bid for repairs to a slip along the Brooke County Pioneer Trail. The bid, in the amount of $334,365 from Ohio-West Virginia Excavating of Shadyside, Ohio, was recommended by Thrasher Engineering, and approved by the commission during its meeting Tuesday. The Clarksburg firm has designed plans for the slip repair, which is being funded with $2.2 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency because the slip has been linked to flooding from the adjacent hillside.

Staff writer WELLSBURG Communication between the public and the city’s water customers during emergencies and the status of upcoming water and sewer projects were among issues discussed by the Wellsburg water-sewer board on Wednesday. The board heard from resident Tammy Provenzano, who said she had difficulty reaching city personnel after discovering dark water from her faucets during two recent weekends. Water Superintendent Rick Stewart said on one weekend the water plant was with phone service due to a power outage. City Manager Steve Maguschak said in addition to calling the water department at (304) 737-3002 and leaving a message, customers may dial the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department’s non-emergency number at 737-3660. He said dispatchers there have been given contact numbers for staff in the event of emergencies.
