Northampton native Mike Chinoy brings story of Irish human rights hero to life Updated Mar 14, 2021; Posted Mar 14, 2021 Award-winning journalist Mike Chinoy of Northampton will be featured in a March 24 virtual presentation about his book on human rights activist Kevin Boyle. Facebook Share When Mike Chinoy was growing up in Northampton, he was encouraged to follow interests that other teens might have found unusual. “A senior in high school, interested in Chinese? But my parents always encouraged me to read and to explore interests that might seem unconventional,” says the now-68-year-old journalist and author. Chinoy’s passions led to his hiring as one of CNN’s first foreign correspondents. These days, his time is spent with think tanks and institutes, connected with the University of Southern California, and with work on a new book chronicling the history of American journalists in China.
