The measure has picked up the support of over 50 ag groups including the American Farm Bureau, National Farmers Union and the Environmental Defense Fund. Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman says it’s a good measure that will help farmers address climate change. He says the bill calls for a USDA led certification program to assist farmers and ranchers in identifying reliable carbon credit programs. Seventeen Republicans have joined 17 Democrats in signing onto the legislation. Lehman says that bodes well for its passage and having bipartisan backing is essential in getting anything passed in this Congress.
