One year to the day after George Floyd was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer, Orlando residents came together to honor Floyd’s life and reflect on the fight for police accountability and racial justice over the past year.

Teenager charged in Pierce funeral shooting

An investigation showed that the 16-year-old had a firearm in his waistband that discharged, causing the bullet to travel through his leg before striking Quasheda Pierce and traveling through her leg as well before striking the funeral platform.  Investigators said residue from the gunshot was found inside the pants the teenager was wearing at the time of the incident. Quasheda Pierce asked that the person responsible not be prosecuted.  Sheriff s detectives conducted an investigation, which was forwarded to the State Attorney s Office, where the decision was made to charge the boy.  Sincere Pierce, 18, was shot and killed by a sheriff s deputy during a traffic stop on Nov. 13, 2020. Pierce was sitting in the rear driver s side of a Volkswagen sedan when the driver, 16-year-old A.J. Crooms, attempted to evade the stop.

(Image credit: Tim Shortt/Florida Today) (Florida Today 2021) For the third time this year, the sole survivor of a deadly police shooting in November has been arrested and jailed on felony drug charges, reports News 6 partner Florida Today. Jacquan Kimbrough-Rucker, 20, was the surviving passenger in a car during a shooting in which two teenagers were shot and killed by a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputy. State Attorney Phil Archer issued a statement in April that the deputy’s use of force was justified and that no criminal charges would be filed.
