Just when a sliver of rebellion was building within the ruling coalition, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan crushed it with the battering ram of a confidence vote at a special session of Parliament on Saturday. With the belligerent 11-party opposition boycotting the session, Imran got 178 votes in his favour, six more than the halfway mark of 172, through an open ballot. The drama began on Wednesday with the shock defeat of his finance minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh against former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani of the Pakistan Peoples Party in indirect elections to the Senate, the nation’s upper house, from Parliament and the provincial assemblies. Imran Khan wins trust vote in Pakistan Assembly amidst Opposition protest

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday won a trust vote in the National Assembly,
Dawn reported. Khan had sought the vote after his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, suffered a setback in the recently-held Senate elections.
The session was marked by an Opposition boycott of the vote. Earlier in the day, clashes also broke out between government supporters and members of the Pakistan Muslim League (N).
Khan secured 178 votes in the trust vote, six more than the number needed to win confidence. As many as 155 leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf voted for Khan. ....
