Early voting for the El Paso Independent School District runoff election for the board of trustees District 5 seat began Monday and will end June 1.
Israel Irrobali and Cordia L. Vanessa Betts are the two candidates hoping to secure EPISD s District 5 trustee seat. Irrobali captured nearly 48% of votes, just shy of the more than 50% needed to avoid a runoff election. Betts brought in just over 17% of votes.

Two top El Paso Independent School District administrators were put on leave Monday, ahead of discussions on an internal audit into contracted academic services Wednesday.
Deputy Superintendent of Finance and Operations Carmen Arrieta-Candelaria and Chief Academics Officer Tamekia Brown were put on paid administrative leave, district spokesperson Gustavo Reveles confirmed, though the reason was not disclosed.
Arrieta-Candelaria and Brown could not be reached for comment via their EPISD email addresses.
At the EPISD s regular board meeting Tuesday, in which the district s 2021-22 budget was adopted, trustees voted to postpone or not approve three academic contracts related to learning programs, citing upcoming discussions on the pending internal audit.
