Welcome to the Action on Respiratory Health Summit! A collaborative construction industry event supported by the Health in Construction Leadership Group (HCLG), the Construction Dust Partnership, the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), the British Lung Foundation and RVT Group.
Exposure to respiratory hazards, such as dust, mist, fume and gases, continues to be a major concern on construction sites. The HSE reports around 13,000 deaths a year linked to past exposure at work, primarily to chemicals or dust.

Virtually every country affected by Covid-19 now has some sort of law or guidance encouraging the use of face coverings in public places, and it is easy to be overwhelmed by the variety of masks on offer; cloth, surgical, homemade, medical-grade – the list goes on.
In the UK, it is compulsory to cover your nose and mouth (unless you have a medical exemption) when on public transport, in shops or when not seated at a table in a hospitality venue. But the law does not specify which materials should be used in your mask, and does not give any formal standards to which masks or coverings must be made.

Call for FFP3 masks to be made available for all health workers

All health and social care staff potentially in contact with Covid-19 patients should be provided with FFP3 respirators in order to mitigate the increased risks from new strains of coronavirus, an industry body has said.
As little is known about how infectious new virus variants are and whether there are differences in how they are transmitted, the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) said more stringent requirements for respiratory protection should be considered.

It recommended FFP3 masks and powered respirators, which offer better comfort and fit for those working long shifts.
