AMAZON has announced that its billionaire owner Jeff Bezos will be stepping down as chief executive after almost 30 years.
He will hand the reins of the technology company to Andy Jassy.

Who is Andy Jassy?
American businessman Andy Jassy joined Amazon as a marketing manager back in 1997 after attending Harvard.
The 52-year-old went on to found Amazon Web Services in 2003, with a team of 57 people.
In 2016, he was promoted from senior vice-president of AWS to CEO.
When is Andy Jassy replacing Jeff Bezos as CEO of Amazon?
According to the company, the switch in power will take place in the third quarter of 2021.

Talk about burying the lede. Well into Amazonâs latest earnings press release, once you get beyond the many, many, many billions the company made last year (snore), thereâs an almost comic understatement: âAmazon is also announcing today that Jeff Bezos will transition to the role of Executive Chair in the third quarter of 2021 and Andy Jassy will become Chief Executive Officer at that time.â
This is âalsoâ in the way that a teenager slips in a bit about detention or a girlfriend before scurrying off to their room. Before moving on to more 2020 recapping, though, Amazon let the reveal linger for a moment longer in its Tuesday announcement. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has announced he will step down as the chief executive officer of Amazon, later this year. Bezos will transition to the role of executive chairman in the third quarter of 2021. Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon Web Services would take over as CEO of Amazon. The announcement came as Amazon released its financial results for its fourth quarter that ended December 31, 2020. The company recorded USD 100bn in sales for last three months of 2020.
Alvin Goldfarb, 92, passed away on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020. He was born in Passaic, N.J. on Sept. 12, 1928.
Goldfarb married the love of his life, Dorothy Alice (Ridush) Goldfarb on Nov. 18, 1951. He was a man of many names; most called him âAl,â but he was also known as âDad, Bepa, Papa, Grandpa, Uncle Al, Dr. Gold, Big Alâ and so many more. He was a loving father, friend and mentor to many people throughout his 92 years.
He attended Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science soon after his marriage and resided in Germantown, Philadelphia. After graduation, Goldfarb received his commission to the U.S. Navy and attended Supply Corp School in Bayonne, N.J.
