New Haven Police to Provide Update on Killing of Yale Grad Student

New Haven police have identified a person of interest in the shooting death of Yale graduate student Kevin Jiang. Jiang was shot dead on Lawrence Street Saturday night. Police said they are looking for 29-year-old Qinxuan Pan as a person of interest in the case. Officials said Pan should be considered armed and dangerous and the public should use extreme caution if they come into contact with him. Pan was last seen at the Best Western hotel in North Haven. His last known address is in Malden, Massachusetts and he is a graduate of MIT.

According to authorities, Jiang was operating a vehicle at the time of the shooting. Investigators are looking into whether he was involved in a vehicle accident before the shooting. New Haven Police Chief Otoniel Reyes also said investigators are looking into whether Jiang was targeted. He said police have developed information that this may not have been a random act, but added it is too early to establish any motive. I am deeply saddened that we lost Yale School of Environment student Kevin Jiang last night to gun violence. Kevin would have celebrated his 27 th birthday next week, New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said in part in a statement on Sunday.

New Haven Police are investigating a deadly shooting in the area of Nash Street and Lawrence Street that left a Yale University student dead. The shooting happened in the Elm City s East Rock neighborhood.  Just after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, New Haven Police and Fire Departments responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls of gunfire and a person shot. Police say one person was fatally wounded by gunfire. Yale University identified the victim as Kevin Jiang, a graduate student at the Yale School of the Environment. Police said he was 26, and recently resided in West Haven. At the time of his death, Jiang was a graduate student attending Yale School of Environment as a member of the class of 2022.
