West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee on Monday announced a hike of salary for para teachers upto Rs 13,000 every month effective from March 1, 2018.
The education minister announced the salary hike at a rally of TMC para-teachers wing, and said 22,085 of them at the primary level and 26,585 at the higher secondary level will be benefited by it.
“Para teachers in primary schools will get a monthly salary of Rs 10,000 from the present Rs 5,954, from now on, while those in higher secondary schools will draw Rs 13,000 every month from Rs 8,500 at present with effect from March 1, 2018,” Chatterjee said. ....

In a gruesome incident, a four-year-old was sexually assualted by two teachers inside the premises of a prominent south Kolkata English-medium school.
The occurence triggered protests by parents of other students in front of the school gate on Friday, demanding immediate suspension of the accused teachers.
The accused were arrested after the parents of the girl child lodged a complaint at the local Jadavpur Police station, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said. ....

West Bengal shuts down schools from tomorrow, summer vacations from May 7

The schools in West Bengal are being shut down from tomorrow in view of the increase in Covid-19 cases across the state.
HIGHLIGHTS
The summer vacations have been preponed are now are from May 7.
No decision regarding West Bengal board exams has been taken yet.
The government of West Bengal has ordered the closure of schools in the state from tomorrow, April 20, in view of the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the area. The schools in the state are set to remain shut for the time being.
Apart from announcing the closure of schools in the state, the government of West Bengal has also announced summer vacations in all the schools from May 7. The students of Class 10 and 12, and the school teachers were attending physical classes till now. ....

KOLKATA: The West Bengal government on Monday said summer vacation in schools will begin from as early as Tuesday in view of rising COVID-19 cases in the state.
The summer break usually starts from the first week of May.
Classes for 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th standard had resumed from mid-February (in state-aided and state-run schools). But, due to the present COVID-19 situation, we are forced to prepone the summer vacation. The education department will issue necessary notifications today, West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said. ....
