Beloved Midwest Jockey J.J. Sunseri Succumbs To Injuries From Automobile Accident Sponsored by:
J.J. Sunseri
James “J.J.” Sunseri, 70, of Erlanger, Ky., born as Tito Libero Cavanti in Ascoli Piceno, Italy on May 4, 1950, passed away on Jan. 2, 2021, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Dec. 13, 2020. The following is a tribute originally posted on Facebook by John Engelhardt, Executive Director at Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders.
He may have weighed 110 pounds – but most of that was his heart.
J.J. has left his mortal coil and he is sharing his raspy laugh with St. Peter. He was a marvelous human being and a hard-working jockey and exercise rider. He was a great ambassador for the sport. After he retired from the saddle you could see him in the center of the grandstand with the usual cast of characters. He was a self-ordained “Betologist” that would help people to read the program or learn how to watch horses in the paddock and post parade.
