Troy Police announced Sunday that a New Mexico man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of another New Mexico man that took place Friday night in Troy.
“Mental health and mental illness is not a crime,” Cook said. “If we start working to provide people with mental illness with solutions and we don’t treat [them] as criminals then I think we are already starting in the right direction.”
Tittle said mental health issues do not excuse criminal behavior. However, he said officers can detain individuals having a mental health crisis rather than arrest them if they are an immediate danger to themselves or others.
“That is more often the appropriate detainment, and they do not come to jail, they go to [Methodist Richardson Medical Center] and go to their psychiatric center,” he said. “We just want to be diligent in our efforts to call [a mental health crisis] what it truly is and take the appropriate actions that should truly be taken.”

10 juveniles arrested after large gang-related fight

The incident happened on January 2.
Officers responded to a call reporting a large fight outside of the movie theater entrance.
After investigating, police determined the incident was gang-related.
“We were able to identify 10 of the individuals involved in this assault and robbery,” said Police Chief Gary Sparks. “They are presently waiting on disposition of their charges, so the techniques rendered that led to their arrests show that the Douglasville Police Department was able to successfully put the pieces of the puzzle together.”
Eight of the individuals arrested live in Douglas County and two are from Louisiana. The two people from Louisiana are in the process of being transferred to Georgia.
