After the re-opening of schools in Odisha, 31 teachers and students have tested positive for COVID-19 in Gajapati district, informed Dr Pradeep Kumar Patra, Chief District Medical Officer on Sunday. Schools reopened for students of Class 10 and 12 in Odisha on January 8, after remaining closed for over 9 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As many as 31 new infections detected in the district. Among them 90 percent are teachers and they would be barred from attending schools, said Patra.

PURI: As many as 31 teachers and students tested positive for coronavirus infection in Gajapati district of Odisha after reopening of schools, Chief District Medical Officer Pradeep Kumar Patra said. Schools reopened for students of Class 10 and 12 in Odisha on January 8 after remaining closed for over 9 months due to the COVID pandemic. IANS quoted Patra as saying that 26 teachers tested COVID-19 positive in the district in the last two days. Schools in Mohana block has reported the maximum number of cases at 21, he said.
Priority for COVID-19 immunisation will be given to the healthcare and frontline workers, estimated to be around 3 crore in number, followed by those above 50 years of age and the under-50 population groups with co-morbidities, numbering around 27 crore, the Health Ministry said.

Bhubaneswar, Jan 9 : A day after schools reopened across Odisha for the students of Class X and XII, as many as 26 teachers and two students have tested positive for Covid-19 in Gajapati district, an official said on Saturday.
Gajapati Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Pradip Kumar Patra informed that 26 teachers have tested Covid-19 positive in the district in the last two days. Schools in Mohana block has reported the maximum number of cases at 21, Patra said. The infected persons, including the students, are asymptomatic. As per the standard operating procedures, the teachers and students will remain in home quarantine. They would not go to school till they recover from the disease, he added.
