VADODARA/ SURAT: Bird flu is spreading its wings dangerously in Gujarat. Three days after the first case was reported from Manavadar taluka in Junagadh, bird flu cases have been confirmed from two more districts of the state – Vadodara and Surat. After 2017, when the disease was confined in pockets of Ahmedabad, this is for the second time that the outbreak of the avian flu has surfaced in the state. Samples of five crows from Vasantpura village of Vadodara’s Savli taluka and Memon Kabrastan from Bardoli town have confirmed that they died of the flu. The samples were sent to Bhopal-based National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD).

Rajkot: Four crows of the ten sick ones rescued from Loj village of Mangrol taluka in Junagadh district died on Friday evening. The district administration has increased the surveillance in the area following alert with regard to bird flu. Officials have so far confirmed bird flu in samples collected from the carcass of two lapwings out of the 53 that were found dead near Kharo reservoir in Bantva taluka of Junagadh. According to Junagadh district administration, the dead crows are from the forest area. Talking to TOI, district collector P S Zamsingh said, “We are taking all the steps in wake of the bird flu alert. We have disinfected the area and surveying the villages from where the birds were found. Villagers have been asked to inform immediately if any symptoms are found in humans. Poultry farms are also under surveillance.” tnn

JUNAGADH: Even as Gujarat recorded its first confirmed cases of bird flu, four crows were found dead at a village in Mangrol taluka in the state's Junagadh district, an official said on Saturday. The state on Friday recorded its first cases of bird flu after samples taken from two dead lapwings recovered in the district tested positive for the infection. "We found carcasses of four crows at Loej village on Friday evening. The remains will be sent to a laboratory in Bhopal to ascertain the cause of death," said Ashok Kumbhani, veterinary officer of Mangrol veterinary dispensary in the district.
