More Political Drama in Fall River [OPINION]
The never-ending cycle of political drama continues unabated in Fall River. In this edition of As the River Turns, the foil is embattled School Superintendent Matt Malone, who ran the education department under former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
Superintendent Malone is refusing to resign even though the Fall River City Council, which is powerless in all of this, voted on Tuesday to pass a resolution of no confidence in Malone and asked him to resign immediately. Eight councilors voted in favor and one voted present because his wife works for the Fall River School Department.
Following Boston Mayor Martin J. Walshâs nomination as President Joe Bidenâs Labor Secretary, Boston s 2021 mayoral race, once perceived as an uphill battle, has become a wide-open race between City Councilors Michelle Wu â07, Andrea J. Campbell, and newcomer Annissa Essaibi George.
Within the last month, Wu received several high-profile endorsements from progressive leaders, including U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and the Boston Sunrise Movement. Cambridge City Councilors Quinton Y. Zondervan and Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler previously endorsed Wuâs bid as well.
Despite this new wave of support for Wu, the race remains hotly contested with Campbell leading the field in fundraising for January.

The decision about who President-elect Joe Biden will pick as attorney general nominee has created a lot of buzz. According to sources, as reported by CNN, it is a crucial decision right now because of possible investigations into President Donald Trump, a federal probe into Hunter Biden s business dealings and pressure from powerful external groups looking over the process.
People familiar with the search told CNN, the discussion in the transition team is about Judge Merrick Garland and Alabama s Sen. Doug Jones. They are being perceived as the two most likely choices. But a final decision is not expected until next week.
