If you’re hoping to escape to the beach or a national park this summer but still haven’t booked your vacation, there are plenty of headlines telling you that you’re way behind the eight ball. With the vaccine rollout humming along, demand for travel is sky high and many top hotels, resorts and rental homes in outdoorsy locations are already booked for the season.
In those destinations, pent-up demand is pushing hotel rates higher as we head into summer. For the week ending May 20, the hotel industry data provider STR found that the average daily hotel rate (ADR) had reached a pandemic high, up 2.8% week-over-week.

As part of New York s efforts to jump-start tourism, New York mayor Bill de Blasio has announced that the city s 5.875% hotel room occupancy tax rate will be temporarily eliminated for a three-month period, starting June 1.
According to a press release from New York s City Hall, the move is intended to allow hotels to potentially lower the cost of their rooms, which could in turn lead to increased demand and occupancy.
The city reports that revenue from the hotel room occupancy tax is currently down approximately 89% on fiscal 2020, with New York s leisure and hospitality sector losing an estimated 257,000 jobs last year.

£13m private residences in the Big Apple come fully serviced by five-star hotels – and they’re selling like hotcakes

Really wealthy people tend to spend a lot of money trying to simplify their lives – to minimise the effort and hassle that comes with ordinary living. They often do this by getting staff, but then staff still need to be managed.
That’s where private residences attached to luxury hotels come in. They offer the space and privacy of home with all the staff, security and facilities of a five-star hotel. And, of course they provide hotels with the additional funding they need to continue building their empires, so it’s a win-win for all concerned.
