CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â Coastal Bend residents will have the opportunity to venture outside and connect with nature during the 2021 City Nature Challenge from April 30 through May 3.
This four-day competition is part of a statewide network of city nature challenges that individuals, couples and families can join. All that is required is a smart phone.
Then, snap a photo of wildlife in your backyard, at local parks, green spaces, nature preserves or wildlife refuges using the iNaturalist app. Photographs of captive or domestic organisms are strongly discouraged.
The Española City Council unanimously voted at its April 13 meeting to amend a new ordinance allowing the use of off-highway vehicles (OHV) on city owned and controlled roads. The ordinance was heard and discussed during its first public hearing.
The discussion leading up to the vote featured public comment from members of the OHV operators community and was tense at times as the council worked to clarify the ordinanceâs interaction with existing state law on the issue.
Councilor Justin Salazar-Torres presented ordinance 2021-01, which has progressed through the Public Safety Committee and was advertised on March 18. The title of the ordinance allows all-terrain vehicles, but that was struck from the language of the law to only allow OHVs, which are operated with a steering wheel and non-straddled seating similar to cars or trucks.

PEOPLE CAN look forward to the pedestrianisation of Ariapita Avenue, Port of Spain, soon.
The avenue will be closed to traffic and be only accessible to people at certain times, Port of Spain Mayor Joel Martinez told Newsday on Friday.
Martinez said this and other plans are some of the ways the city is moving along with its revitalisation plans.
He spoke with Newsday after the launch of the Commonwealth Garden at Wildflower Park, Serpentine Road, St Clair.
Last year the Prime Minister announced plans to revitalise the capital, including the development of Memorial Plaza, the Salvatori Building site and Piccadilly Street.
Austin police have arrested two men in connection to two separate fatal shootings that started off as road rage incidents last year.
Manuel Huerta, 21, has been charged with murder in both shootings, which happened in late November and the day after Christmas, police said. Jonathan Zavala, 33, was charged with murder in connection to the shooting after Christmas.
Authorities also said they believe the two men could be connected to about 11 different cases being investigated by Austin police dating back to September. Police on Wednesday did not say what all 11 cases were about. I think this is still the tip of the iceberg, there are still charges to come, and we believe there may be additional suspects currently still at large, or at least people of interest who may have information, Austin police Detective Filemon Zamora said at a Wednesday news conference.
