It’s spring 2021. It’s Friday at dusk. Gaggles of curious teenagers are gathering for an unfamiliar event designed to salvage a high school year that hardly was and pump an unaccustomed feeling into their final weeks as juniors and seniors joy.
Call it prom-ish.
In the early weekends of California’s phased reopening, teenagers, school leaders and perhaps most of all, parents, have seized on a sliver of an opportunity to try to make up for 14 months of missed dances, homecomings, sports award ceremonies and winter formals by mobilizing eleventh-hour proms like none before them.
Depending on the school, parking lots replaced fancy indoor venues. Promposals, the highly orchestrated ask for a date, were tame. The DJ’s music blast tended to waft into oblivion outdoors, which seemed OK because attempts at socially distanced dancing was a bit awkward. News Mega-Producer Vinylz Signs Global Publishing Agreement with Warner Chappell Music
Warner Chappell Music, the global publishing arm of Warner Music Group, has entered into a worldwide publishing agreement with multi-platinum record producer Vinylz. He’s become the go-to producer for a long list of top artists, working with Drake, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Travis Scott, J. Cole, Nicki Minaj, and Chris Brown, among others. Most recently, Vinylz co-produced two songs on Justin Bieber’s surprise EP
Freedom – “Freedom” ft. Beam and “All She Wrote” ft. Brandon Love and Chandler Moore – in addition to working on pop singer/songwriter Starrah’s debut album,
Primary Wave Music acquired the music publishing catalog of
Carl Sturken and
Evan Rogers. The acquisition also includes a share in the duo s master royalty income from Rihanna s first seven albums and their shares on some of her biggest hits like Umbrella, We Found Love, Disturbia, and many more.
Sturken and Rogers are known for discovering Rihanna and writing and producing numerous chart-topping hits over many decades. Shares of publishing on Kelly Clarkson s The Trouble With Love Is and N Sync s (God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time On You” are also included in the acquisition.

Warner Chappell Music has promoted Katy Wolaver to the role of senior vice president of A&R.
According to musicrow.com, Wolaver joined Warner Chappell in 2016 as senior director before being promoted to vice president in 2018. Last year, her role was expanded, as she worked between Nashville and Los Angeles.
Wolaver (pictured) began her career in the music industry in 2006 at Arthouse Entertainment before later working as director of A&R at SONGS Music Publishing.
In addition, Wallace Joseph has also been appointed Warner Chappell Music vice president of A&R. Both Wolaver and Joseph will continue to report to Ryan Press, WCM president of A&R for the United States.
