Somerset Fire and Ice Festival Begins

Somerset Fire and Ice Festival Begins
1:24 am
The 26th Annual “Fire and Ice” Festival in Somerset began this Weekend. Organizers there told us how they’re planning to keep visitors safe during the Pandemic. While the Fire and Ice Festival in Somerset is a little different this year because of the Pandemic, organizers say it’s still the same amount of fun for families and friends.
The Fire and Ice Festival has been attracting visitors to the Somerset area for 26 years, but organizers say because of COVID-19, this year they’re now calling it a “Showcase” with a focus on keeping the activities outdoors. Regina Coughenour, Executive Director of Somerset Inc says this year the Showcase is more self-guided and to-go style.

The season for paying it forward: Helping families a few meals at a time

A $1,500 grant from the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ conference was intended to be for the congregation at the 202 W. Union St., Somerset, site to help provide for children and families, alongside a group called Love for the World.
Love fore the World is made of local churches and community members.
Then the pandemic happened. Schools closed. Students set up classrooms in their homes. Many businesses shut down. It became a challenging time for many.
The quandary: What to do with the grant money?
The funds had been earmarked to help the children and their families by providing backpacks and school supplies.
