Five Monmouth College alumni to participate in Presidents Day forum on 2020 election

Five Monmouth College alumni to participate in Presidents Day forum on 2020 election
Monmouth College
MONMOUTH — COVID-19. Economic collapse. Civil unrest. Iowa caucuses. Rep. Steve King's defeat. President Trump. Kenosha. Georgia special elections for the U.S. Senate. The storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6. Election 2020.
Monmouth College graduates were eyewitnesses to all of those historic events.
Five of those graduates will be part of a special Feb. 15 session organized by the College's political science department and led by lecturer Robin Johnson.
Alex Altamirano '19, Libby Meyer '15, Steve Oaks '16, Josh Perschall '19 and Antonio Salgado '20 will participate in the forum. It will be held via Zoom at 4 p.m. Feb. 15, which is, appropriately, Presidents Day. It can be viewed through this link.

Every year on the third Monday of January, we celebrate the life, work, and sacrifice of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is widely known that Dr. King fought for a day when America would be a country of equals—when we would be judged by our merits, no matter the color of our skin, the religion we profess, or the place we were born.
The power of Dr. King’s words and the beauty of his dream are often the focus on this day. The phrase “I have a dream” is recognized by millions of Americans. Because Dr. King was one of the great orators of the 20th century, there is a tendency to focus on his inspirational quotes and powerful messages. But if we are truly to honor his legacy, particularly in these tumultuous times, we must go further. We are called to act. We must live the teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Denali: Artists Respond to Music Inspired by Wilderness opens in the Rozsa Gallery and virtually | News, Sports, Jobs

Michigan Technological University
HOUGHTON – The Department of Visual and Performing Arts and the Rozsa Center are pleased to announce Denali: Artists Respond to Music Inspired by Wilderness, an exciting collaboration culminating in both a Rozsa Gallery A-Space exhibit “Denali: Artists Respond to Music Inspired by Wilderness,” and a virtual event, “Denali: Music and Art Inspired by Wilderness,” featuring composers and artists, their music, and the art inspired by it.
Denali: Artists Respond to Music Inspired by Wilderness exists in the confluence of two languages–music and visual art. It features 18 works of art made in response to original chamber music inspired by composers’ experiences in Denali National Park, in central Alaska. The in-person gallery experience opens in the Rozsa Gallery A-Space on Friday, Jan. 22, and both the live and virtual events will be available through Saturday, April 17. Gallery hours are: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 1 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays. The Denali virtual event can be streamed anytime Friday, Jan. 22 to Saturday, April 17, by visiting the Rozsa website at mtu.edu/rozsa. QR codes, posted with each work of art throughout the gallery exhibit, provide links to the related pieces of music by scanning with a QR code reader on a smartphone. Musical scores, program notes, artist statements, and biographies of all project participants will be available both inside the gallery exhibit and digitally as part of the virtual experience.

What Iowa Starting Line Accomplished In 2020 | Iowa Starting Line

As a very, very long 2020 winds down to a close, I thought it would be good to take a look back at what Iowa Starting Line accomplished in our most successful year yet.
One thing I don’t always do a good job of is publicly touting our successes — I’m always cautious about sounding self-serving or boasting. I think when your journalism work is out in public, it can speak for itself.
However, the impact of Starting Line’s work is often far greater than what you simply see online. There are many times every month where there will be a story that ends up on CNN or in the New York Times or on KCCI that I know was a direct result from our reporting. I know that a producer or an editor who follows us noticed something we tweeted, looked into it more and wrote something about it themselves. But if you don’t follow all these social media connections, you might not know how so many storylines about Iowa politics are directly influenced by Starting Line.
