“I’m an innocent man” – those were Ledell Lee’s last words before he was executed in 2017 and now four years later, he may have been telling the truth all along.
Lee was convicted for the murder of his neighbour Debra Reese in Jacksonville, Arkansas, back in 1993. Her killing was nothing short of gruesome – she had been strangled and beaten with a small wooden bat, which her husband had given her for protection.
It has now emerged that there is new DNA evidence belonging to an unidentified man, which was found on the murder weapon. Lee’s family had commissioned DNA testing of the handle of the wooden club that was used to kill Reese and just last month, they said the results came back, possibly vindicating the man convicted in the killing.
