DELAND For 83-year-old Bernice Atkins to get her first dose of the coronavirus vaccine Wednesday, a lot of things had to fall into place. It was really nice and sweet. No problems, Atkins said as she settled into a waiting area for 15 minutes after getting her first dose at the Chisholm Community Center in DeLand. I feel normal.
Atkins lives alone in Daytona Beach and doesn’t use computers much. She is the last living of 13 children. Her brother was cremated last week in New York. She said he had COVID-19 and cancer.
But Atkins had people looking out for her.
