Galway Bay fm newsroom – Gardaà have requested the assistance of the army bomb disposal unit following reports of an unexplained device at the Cuirt na Cora estate on the Weir Road in Tuam.
The apartment complex has been evacuated as a precautionary measure as Gardaà carry out an investigation.
Locals also reported shotgun fire in the area overnight.
Gardaà have confirmed nobody has been injured.
Local Fianna Fail councillor Donagh Killilea says ongoing anti-social behaviour must be addressed as residents in the area have gone through “hell” for the last four years and says the responsible housing association needs to urgently intervene.

Houses have been evacuated and the Army bomb disposal squad has been called to deal with the discovery of an unexplained device in county Galway.
Gardai sealed off the area at 8.30am following the discovery of an unexplained device at the Cuirt na Cora estate on the Weir Road in Tuam.
Local Fianna Fail Councillor Donagh Killilea says residents won t be that shocked with this development given the ongoing anti-social behaviour that residents in the area have had to put up with for the last four years.
Cllr. Killilea says it s very disturbing to think that 16 families had to be evacuated from their houses this morning and has condemned the actions by those responsible.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Army Bomb Disposal Unit has made safe a viable explosive device that was found in Tuam.
The device was discovered at the Cuirt na Cora estate on the Weir Road in the early hours of this morning.
It comes as locals also reported shotgun fire in the area overnight – though Gardaí have confirmed nobody has been injured.
Following the discovery of the device, nearby homes were evacuated and the area was sealed off.
Gardai then sent a request to the Army for assistance, and the Athlone Bomb Squad was deployed to the scene, it arrived shortly after 11 o’clock.
5 arrested after attempted murder of Derry police officer
Five men have been arrested in Derry in connection with the attempted murder of a female part-time police officer.
A viable explosive device was found beside the young mother’s car in Ballyquin Road, Dungiven last month.
The five men are being held under the Terrorism Act at Musgrave Police Station.
One of the men arrested today – a 52 year old – is also being questioned as part of an operation targeting the New IRA’s bomb making activities.
Meanwhile the Army Bomb Disposal Unit has made safe a viable explosive device that was found in Tuam, County Galway this morning.
