Breaking down the Novavax vaccine trial for children

SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, Pa. Last week, we told you about Holden Mills, age 13, from Susquehanna County, one of 3,000 children who chose to participate in a clinical trial of a COVID-19 vaccine called Novavax. Holden was prescreened for the trial at Meridian Clinical Research in Binghamton, New York, one of 75 sites across the country.
Dr. Frank Eder is monitoring patients during the trial. Dr. Eder says while some may think it is controversial to test a new vaccine on children, it s important to know this trial has already passed the safety portion.

When COVID-19 patient John Lodge was told he could go home early from the hospital and be monitored remotely by his United Health Services doctor, he was thrilled.
“Knowing that I would be video-chatting at home with my doctor every day at 4 p.m. took away a level of worry and fear,” he said. “It eliminated stress while I was recovering and allowed me as a patient to feel comfortable.”
“Hospital Care at Home,” a program giving patients the ability to recover from COVID-19 in the comfort of their own homes after hospitalization is getting positive reviews from people who have benefitted from the new approach, according to Kim Brady, RN, System director of Care Management and a principal organizer of the program.
