Ocean Bowl, Falmouth proposal to rent out rooms over summer

Ocean View under construction in 2019 COUNCILLORS were urged to stand firm this week and refuse a proposal to allow visitors to use empty flats in a student block as holiday lets over the summer. Empiric Student Property want to be allowed to rent out the rooms in the 190-bed Ocean Bowl student block in Pendennis Rise, Falmouth from June to August. Last month an application to allow student accommodation at Fish Strand Hill to be used for holiday lets was recommended for refusal by the town council. She said allowing occupation by non-students over the summer break would contribute to vitality and footfall in Falmouth.

Falmouth Town Council Labour appointments made at annual meeting

LABOUR councillors are promising to work collaboratively with all their colleagues after taking control of the council at the Falmouth Town Council annual meeting last night. Last night saw many changes as new councillors took their places following the local elections on 6 May. It was the first physical, although socially distanced, meeting since lockdown began last year. Labour Councillors  - Emily Seiler, Jayne Kirkham, Kirstie Edwards, Brod Ross, Jude Robinson, Gerald Chin-Quee, Zoe Young, Debra Clegg, Alan Rowe, Louise Coley. Falmouth Town Council votes in Labour majority

There will be more concentration on environmental issues after Falmouth voted in Labour majority town council - bucking the national trend. The political balance now stands at ten Labour, two Conservatives, two Independent, one Lib Dem and one Green. Dean Evans is the first Green party candidate to have ever been elected to the town council. The new Labour town councillors are: Arwenack: Emily Seiler and Zoe Young; Boslowick: Debra Clegg; Penwerris: Gerald Chin-Quee (although Gerald is a veteran of the council), Kirstie Edwards, Jayne Kirkham, who was also re-elected to the county council, and Alan Rowe. Re-elected Labour town councillors are Jude Robinson, Arwenack and Louise Coley and Brod Ross for Trescobeas.
