By incorporating unexpected combinations of materials and techniques and experimenting with design solutions 9 Lives Co. produces unique, special and thrilling pieces. The path to designing and creating jewellery has not been exactly straightforward. Gertrud studied Political Sciences resulting in a heightened consciousness of problems facing the fashion industry as well as the global problem of excess waste. Thus, 9 Lives started as a jewellery label to challenge the status quo. Using 100% recycled materials hand crafted by Gertrud the label explored the ideology that even discarded, broken objects had the chance at being created into something beautiful. The current collections are still inspired by found materials, vintage jewellery and found objects. . Owing to Gertrud’s passion for travel and European heritage, she began to explore the historic and material backgrounds of various cultures to merge them into her own style. Inspiration was drawn from architecture, fabrics, jewellery and the colours explored by these cultures. It is through the passion that Gertrud has not only for developing her own work and style, but exploring other interests that 9 Lives Co. continues to build on the solid foundations of seeking unique solutions for everyday wear and jewellery.
