Maitri è parola sanscrita che significa amore e compassione universali. . . Il MAITRI Charitable Trust fu fondato da Adriana Ferranti, una triestina che, avviatasi su un cammino di ricerca interiore, si preparò per anni ad una trasformazione che la condusse al servizio dei lebbrosi (attraverso la riscoperta del messaggio del Cristo, l’incontro con il pensiero di Gandhi e Lanza del Vasto, la conoscenza del Buddismo e del Dalai Lama), al vegetarianismo ed alla fusione col mondo degli animali.. . Si è così composto il mosaico della sua vita, che l’ha portata, dopo un periodo trascorso in India per studi sulla lebbra, a maturare il suo trasferimento a Bodhgaya, su suggerimento del suo Maestro spirituale, Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoce.. Così Adriana fondò MAITRI, un “charitable trust” (organizzazione filantropica) regolarmente registrata in India, associata alla FPMT, una Fondazione internazionale di Tradizione Mahayana, che ne assicurerà la continuità nel tempo.. Il Trust è amministrato da un Consiglio di amministrazione.. L’Amministratrice designata dal Consiglio nonché Direttrice del Centro, è Adriana Ferranti, responsabile della pianificazione e gestione dei programmi di attività e dello sviluppo futuro del Centro..
