She was born and grew up in Singapore to an Egyptian family that was working extensively in South East Asia. As a ballerina, she started her training in classical ballet, jazz dance, contemporary dance and tap dance at the age of four and was lucky to have received her training by several well known Russian, Romanian, and Azeri dance professors, which led to her professional career. Having established herself as a tragedienne in dramatic ballets, she has toured several cities dancing in Hong Kong, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Munich, Istanbul, Bucharest, Singapore, and Dubai with a repertoire that includes ballets such as Swan Lake, La Dame Aux Camellias, Jeune Homme Et La Mort, La Bayadere and Raymonda. . . Having grown up in a very traditional Egyptian family that lived abroad, belly dance was a common practice at home as a form of celebration and entertainment within the household, as well as at parties. Vacations in Cairo included visits to hotels to watch Fifi Abdou and Lucy perform, as well as purchasing the coveted Soheir Zaki, Nagwa Fouad, and Hannan videos for personal practice. Since the age of 5 Amie was belly dancing at birthday parties, farewell parties, and family weddings and soon found her way to her official belly dance training with Raqia Hassan master teacher and choreographer and host of the world famous Ahlan Wa Sahlan festival which is held in Cairo. She has also received training and instruction from Soheir Zaki, Farida Fahmy, Dina, Aziza, Soraya Zaied, and Azza Sherif. Her latest training has included tabla sessions with renowned Egyptian percussionist Hamdi El Khayyat. She appears occasionally at certain events with the accompaniment of a DJ but Amie's normal and preferred format is to appear with her beloved 18 member orchestra which includes some of the top musicians in Cairo.. . In her quest to add a new layer to her dance repertoire, it is Amie’s goal as a performance artist to restore the glamour and brilliance of technique to belly dance that was at its height in the 1940’s and 50’s. Her idols include Samia Gamal, Naemat Mokhtar, Taheyya Carioca, Soheir Zaki, Nagwa Fouad from the golden age and Dina and Sorayya Zaied in modern times. Her repertoire consists mainly of classical dances for Omm Kolthoum, Nagat, Abdel Halim Hafez, Abdel Wahab, and Warda and she is extremely conscious of design sense in her choice of costumes, color schemes, in coordination with her dance style and music.. . Amie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from Rhodec Institute of the Arts and is an alumnus of Cairo American College in Maadi Cairo, Egypt..
