A disused building, part of the Ballard Bungalow Hotel complex, in the heart of the old town Fort Cochin in Cochin Kerala, has been transformed into living space for artists and a working studio. . . . This Art Space project will initially run for the period of the Kochi Biennale, December to the end of March, offering affordable accommodation and use of a working studio for travelling artists. Situated opposite the main biennale exhibition entrance, the location and timing of this pop-up could not be more perfect. India’s 3rd Biennale will be running a vast programme of events, offering great networking opportunities for any visiting artist. The low cost of living and art materials in India is also an appealing insentive, as it will allow any artist more financial freedom to realise their creative ideas. Any artist looking for new inspiration or needing to flee the stress of city life, this is the ideal time and place for a new experience. . . www.kochimuzirisbiennale.org. . . The live/work space has two bedrooms and a shared shower and toilet and can accommodate 2-4 people. The rate of the room/studio is 500rp/per night (around £6). As the space is part of the hotel complex, residence will have access to a fully equipped kitchen, and cleaning and bedding are maintained by the hotel staff. The space has a good wi-fi signal and is peaceful and secure at night.. . The location is perfect as well; the building is situated on the same street as the main entrance of the main biennale space and it is a minute walk from the ferry which in 15 minutes will have you in the city center of Ernakulm. . . The studio can be opened to the public and used as a space to sell art work. Attention can be attracted via a simple street sign, and of course we now have trip advisor to flag the place as a must see spot for tourists to visit.
