Zielsetzung der gemeinsamen Arbeit ist die Diskussion gesellschaftskritischer Theorieansätze, deren Reproduktion und Weiterentwicklung in Zeiten ihrer zunehmenden Marginalisierung an den Hochschulen gesichert werden soll.. . Schwerpunkt der gemeinsamen Arbeit bilden in der Regel halbjährig stattfindende Tagungen, bei denen die Verknüpfung theoretischer und politischer Fragen im Vordergrund steht. Die erste Tagung mit dem Titel ‘Kritische Gesellschaftstheorie heute’ fand im April 2005 in Marburg statt. Im Herbst 2008 wurde in Frankfurt eine erste Bestandsaufnahme von knapp 5 Jahren AkG-Arbeit versucht, bei der erste (positive wie negative) Erfahrungen diskutiert und organisatorische sowie inhaltliche Zielsetzungen der weiteren Arbeit debattiert wurden.
