An addendum to that is that governments have cronies in the world of business, and that these two are linked in an unholy alliance with increasing their own wealth at any cost they can get away with as the chief aim of their relationship. Of particular concern is the threat posed to one and all by engineering the consent and shaping the opinions of the citizenry. Based on ideas first advanced tentatively in the 1800s, and subsequently developed by the post-modernists, it is taken for granted here that realities (and what counts as knowledge) are constructed in a politico-economic context, to suit particular agenda, and then manufactured for mass consumption, so as to serve particular political and economic interests and ends. If science (as Carl Sagan once said) is a candle in the dark,then critical thinking is a hurricane lamp in a tornado at midnight. Thanks
