Detailed description is Geschichte Die Geschichte unseres Hauses beginnt schon im Mittelalter: 1455 stiftete Graf Wilhelm von Castell das Kloster Birklingen. Bereits zu einem berühmten Wallfahrtsort, in dem eine Vielzahl von Pilgern das wundertätige Marienbild besuchten und Tat und Hilfe erbaten.. . Großes Unheil brachte der Bauernkrieg 1525 dem Kloster. Aufständische Bauernhaufen misshandelten die Mönche und legten Feuer. Nur die Klosterkapelle blieb erhalten. Die verbliebenen Mönche verließen die Ruinenstätte. Später wurden die Rädelsführer auf Anordnung von Bischof Konrad in Iphofen auf dem Marktplatz hingerichtet.. . Die Sage erzählt aus dieser Zeit, dass die Bauern die Klosterglocken im Birklinger Weiher versenkt hätten. Zu Zeiten kämen in den Nächten dunkle Klänge aus der Tiefe an das Ohr des Lauschenden, versunkene Glocken, die aus der Tiefe läuten, wie die des versunkenen, sagenhaften Erdteils Atlantis.. . 1593 ließ Bischof Julius Echter, Würzburg, die Kapelle renovieren. Das Langhaus wurde abgerissen und später neu aufgebaut. Bis 1794 war die Anlage eine leere, verlassene Wüstung. Das berühmte Gnadenbild wude 1700 wieder aufgefunden. 1846 errichtete man die Dorfschule, die ab 1951 geschlossen wurde und dann bis zur Gebietreform 1973 als Sitz der Gemeindeverwaltung diente.. . Nach längeren Leerstandsjahren ist nun unser Lokal Augustiner am See in diese geschichtsträchtige Gebäude eingezogen. Mit historischem Bewusstsein und viel Liebe zum Detail wurde es an die Bedürfnisse unserer Zeit angepasst, um den Gästen Gemütlichkeit und Komfort in Verbindung mit erlesenen Speisen und ausgewählten Getränken zu bieten.
