The Bavarian International School e.V was established in 1991 as a non-profit association (eingetragener Verein) to serve the international community of the Munich area. The school offers an excellent quality education with English as the principal language of instruction.. . BIS is governed by a Board of Trustees and is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).. . There are 946 students attending BIS from over 45 different countries, speaking 32 languages. In 2011-2012 we will have 51 students in the graduating class. The major nationalities represented in the school are American, British, German, Italian and Spanish. The three school sections of BIS are the Lower School (Pre-Reception - grade 5) with 476 students; Middle School (grades six - eight) with 213 students; and Upper School (grades 9 - 12) with 257 students.. . The Lower School is authorized to teach the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and in August 2009 the Middle School begins the implementation of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme as a candidate school.. . BIS has been authorized to administer the IB Diploma Programme since 1995. The school strongly encourages and supports all Upper School students who possess the necessary aptitude and motivation to complete the requirements of the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11-12.
