A Campanha Nacional pelo Direito à Educação surgiu em 1999, impulsionada por um conjunto de organizações da sociedade civil que participaria da Cúpula Mundial de Educação em Dakar (Senegal), no ano seguinte. O objetivo era somar diferentes forças políticas, priorizando ações de mobilização, pressão política e comunicação.. . Hoje é considerada a articulação mais ampla e plural no campo da educação básica no Brasil, constituindo-se como uma rede que articula mais de 200 grupos e entidades distribuídas por todo o país, incluindo movimentos sociais, sindicatos, organizações não-governamentais nacionais e internacionais, fundações, grupos universitários, estudantis, juvenis e comunitários, além de centenas de cidadãos que acreditam na construção de um país justo e sustentável por meio da oferta de uma educação pública de qualidade.. . Tem como missão atuar pela efetivação e ampliação dos direitos educacionais para que todas as pessoas tenham garantido seu direito a uma educação pública, gratuita e de qualidade no Brasil.. . Gerida por uma equipe de coordenação geral e dirigida por um comitê diretivo nacional, a Campanha também possui comitês regionais.. . É fundadora e membro do comitê diretivo da Clade (Campanha Latino-Americana pelo Direito à Educação). Também participou da fundação da CGE (Campanha Global pela Educação) e integra sua direção.. .
