Detailed description is Nella via principale di Ghilarza si trova la casa dove Antonio Gramsci visse dal 1898 al 1911. E' una costruzione della metà dell' Ottocento in basalto, pietra d'origine vulcanica spesso utilizzata nelle tipiche abitazioni della Sardegna centrale. Ha un aspetto semplice e dignitoso. L'interno è suddiviso in 6 camere, 3 al piano terra e 3 al piano superiore. Gli interventi di ristrutturazione che nel tempo si sono succeduti non hanno alterato la struttura dell'immobile che ha mantenuto nel complesso l'aspetto originario. . . Questa di Ghilarza è l'unica vera casa che Gramsci abbia mai avuto e il paese di Ghilarza con il territorio circostante hanno rappresentato per lui luoghi di memoria e di affetti in cui egli è tornato con note di struggente nostalgia. Sono ambienti descritti nelle Lettere del Carcere. . . La Casa, di proprietà della Fondazione Enrico Berlinguer, è stata acquistata nel 1965 dal PCI. Nel 1967, in occasione del trentesimo anniversario della morte di Gramsci, viene aperta al pubblico. Dal 2017 è gestita dalla Fondazione Casa Museo Antonio Gramsci di Ghilarza.. . Già riconosciuta patrimonio di rilevante interesse culturale, a cinquant'anni dalla sua istituzione il Parlamento italiano con la legge n. 207 del 3 novembre 2016 ha dichiarato la Casa Museo Gramsci di Ghilarza monumento nazionale. .
