At times I've been slimmer, at times I've been bigger. I've been in tears talking to the Weight Watchers ladies when they told me I must be lying if I couldn't lose weight with their plan. I've done Atkins. I've done Tony Fergusson. I've done South Beach. I've done raw food... You get the idea... It's been a journey. But the most dramatic transformation started to happen when I discovered weight training through a personal trainer. . . Weight training has made me like my body and want to look after it. Something that all those fad diets tend to stop you doing. They always make you think there is something wrong with you. And if their plan doesn't work, it's your fault. After being that kid who liked to play sport, but wasn't particularly good at it (and didn't look especially graceful given the size I was), I found something I was AWESOME at. Turns out, women can be strong. And sometimes we can out-muscle the boys. AND IT FEELS GOOD. Those stumpy, muscular legs I hated so much allowed me to do some amazing things- people even came up to me in the gym and told me that I was inspiring. Instead of constantly thinking about how bad my body looked, I had started to realize that my body was strong and I appreciated it for what it could do.. . Long story, but this is why I threw in my corporate job and started ChicksWithGuns. Not everyone knows what it's like to think your body is your enemy, working against you no matter what you try. I do and it can still be a battle. But I also know now that everyone deserves self confidence. Everyone needs to know what it feels like to be strong, healthy and energised.
