Cocktails in the Kiddie Pool brings two hours of new programming each week to The Independent FM in Los Angeles http://TheIndependent.fm and in Reno at NV89.org. Each show has segments that are themed, or have a common thread that runs through each song. . . Gia DeSantis is all gooey inside to have finally found a place to embrace her stream of consciousness and non sequiturs.. . As host of a cult favorite televised video show throughout the late ‘80s and into the ’90s, Gia interviewed rock legends including Nirvana, Lou Reed, The Cramps and nearly every band born in Los Angeles during that time. She subsequently worked as a DJ at The World Famous KROQ and later joined the ranks of several prominent record labels, where she did marketing, promotion and publicity for a staggering number of her favorite bands. Among those that made her freakishly happy: Radiohead (they hung out in her office because she had a bean bag and a sofa), Beastie Boys (The Ill Communication task force, yo!), Bonnie Raitt, Supergrass, Foo Fighters, Richard Thompson, Filter, The Muffs, Mudhoney, Pavement, Liz Phair, Luscious Jackson and about a hundred more. On the flip side, she once had a member of Duran Duran call her because he “seemed to have misplaced” his car; got bitched out by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine because his town car was white and not black; had a certain notorious female singer (who’d once relieved herself on an A&R guy’s desk) threaten to kick her ass; and loaned Morrissey her hair dryer at Irvine Meadows Ampitheatre—but wasn’t smart enough to keep the autographed proof (instead, she auctioned it off for charity, so that has to count for something, right?).. .
